LARGE ANTIQUE J. THOMAS AUTOMATA GRANDFATHER CLOCK: A remarkable automata longcase clock by J. Thomas of Penygroes, Wales. This is a rare form of automata in which the lion's eyes move back and forth with the swinging of the pendulum. The lion and its prey are depicted with wonderful polychromed images with four wild cats encircling the painted dial, which includes a subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture above the maker's signature, all set behind a glass door. The wood case features a broken pediment and spiraled columns flanking both the hood and trunk of the clock. Approx. 92.5'' h x 29'' w x 11'' d.
CONDITION: Missing parts; not in working condition. Crazed dial. Small areas with loss of wood.
