CONDITION: Laid down on card, several scattered spots of foxing overall even toning. |

STEELE, Theodore Clement, (American, 1847-1926): Village Landscape, Oil/Canvas, 14'' x 28'', signed lower left and dated 1887, contemporary frame, 18.5'' x 31.5'', John H. Holliday bought this from T. C. Steele in 1887. It was inherited by his cousin, Evelyn, who sold it to Janet Holliday Welliver in the late 1950's. Having painted this in 1887, Steele would have been back several years from his studies in Munich, but still shows considerable influence from his time there. Est. $3000/5000** CONDITION: Foil lined backing has been re-stretched, several minor flecks of loss, craquelure throughout. |
