SCHOMBERG, Auldwin Thomas, (American, 1943-): Soccer Player Bronze ''Overhead Kick'', 17'' h x 9''. From the Dr. Andrew Haraway Collection. Sports Illustrated deemed A. Thomas Schomberg as ''perhaps the best known sports sculptor of his time.'' He created the statue ''Rocky'' for the movie Rocky III, and a bronze of squash players at the National Art Museum of Sport, a tribute to the museum's founder, the late Germain G. Glidden, a champion amateur squash player. Schomberg has pursued a central theme, from his youthful days in Iowa, through the formal and formative years of study, to the last three decades of creativity, and that is to describe the time and environment in which he lives and works, west of Denver, Colo. In 1984, the statue entitled, ''Down but Not Out.. Lost but Not Forgotten'', was produced for the international amateur boxing association in memory of the American Olympic boxing contingency killed in a 1980 airplane crash enroute to Poland. One of the life size castings is permanently located at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and the second is located in front of the Skra Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.
