Verrerie d'art Degue was established in 1928 by artist and sculptor Edouard Cazaux, and David Gueron, founder of Christalleries de Compienge. Contemporaries of Lalique and Tiffany, Cazaux and Gueron produced some of the most exquisite Art Deco pieces collected today. Signed 'Degue', the glass pieces were used on the steamship Normandy, launched in 1935. Degue's retail outlet in Paris closed in 1939. McKILLOP, William, (American, 20th C): Forest interior landscape, O/C, 20" x 34", signed lower left. Condition - Painting has been cleaned, some spots of in paint and a depressed area in middle with minor paint loss, pin hole punctures. Following is a biography based on information given to AskART.com by Jeffrey Gold of J. Gold Fine Arts, Bellmore, New York. William McKillop is one of those legions of artists, well known during their lifetime but virtually forgotten today. Although listed in "Who Was Who in American Art" and other major reference guides, the information readily available is quite limited. Thankfully, in 1925, Catherine Beach Ely included an entire chapter on McKillop in her book "The Modern Tendency in American Art." The following biography is culled from Ely's writings. McKillop began his art studies at the St. Louis Art School under Edmund Wuerpel prior to 1904. He studied in Paris at the Academy Julian under Jean Paul Laurens and at the Academy of Beaux Arts under Ernest Laurent, and he exhibited several paintings at the Paris Salon. McKillop returned to the United States in 1913 and established a studio where he painted portraits. He exhibited widely including at the National Academy, The Chicago Institute, The Society of Independent Artists, The Allied Artists Exhibitions, and Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco where he won a silver medal. McKillop is best known for his stylized depictions of woman in interiors, but he also painted genre paintings, landscapes and, apparently, florals (although Beach Ely did not discuss any in her book). He painted numerous pictures of the Brittany countryside and of Tangiers. He also sketched outdoors in the Berkshires near Lee, Massachusetts. During his lifetime, he sold many paintings and was well regarded by his peers, as is evident by his being selected to paint the portrait of the wife of George De Forest Brush, which he exhibited at the National Academy . | 450 |

1872 APPLICANTS PATTERN IMPERIAL NAVY DIRK: Bearing King's head and Knight's head logo, and "WK & C". This rarely-seen pattern is an outstanding example. All-brass construction, in the scabbard, measures just slightly over 21 1/2". The grip is built-into the design, consisting of grip segment serrations. The crossguard has rounded, bowling pin-shaped quillon ends. The center block of the obverse, features a highly detailed, raised-out Imperial crown. There is a stationary clamshell depicting a raised-out fouled anchor with pebbled background relief. The black leather scabbard is in excellent condition, showing little age. The double slab style blade is etched with naval-motif scenes with beautifully frosted background panels highlighting the still mint bright work. The design features a centered, crown-over-fouled anchor on both sides. Both ricassos depict a spectacular fully-rigged sailing ship, complete with flags flying from the masts. The blade is still in a mint state and retains it's original off-red, felt blade buffer. | 700 |

1878 FRENCH SWORD TYPE BAYONET: This bayonet was the last of the French "sword-type" bayonets and was manufactured to fit the French Model 1874 "Gras" Infantry Rifle. It has a solid brass pommel with integral latching mechanism, grips are wood. Crossguard is steel with upper guard being the muzzle-ring, lower guard forming a hooked "blade-breaker" quillon. Upper blade edge marked "Mre d' Armes de St. Etienne Fbre 1878" indicating the exact month, year and city of manufacture. Matching serial #s to crossguard and scabbard.
